The Canes made the trip west on Sunday to face the undefeated West Coast Trojans knowing that anything less than a win would mean no post season football for the Dundee side. The Hurricanes came out playing their now familiar running game, and after each side went 3 and out, the Canes opened the scoring. Craig Blacklaw found the endzone with some explosive running from 13 yards out, continuing his fine form of late. Mahamadou Niakate added the 2 point conversion, to give the away side a shock 8-0 lead. This was the wake up call the home side needed and were soon to grab a score of their own. However, the Trojans failed on the extra point attempt and the Canes held a 8-6 lead at the end of the 1st period.
The Canes showed they were chasing the win and Mahamadou Niakate increased the lead with a 16yd run. They continued to dominate the game but were unable to add to the score and held a impressive 14-6 half time lead.
The third period was to be a disaster for the Canes the Trojans would first score on the 1st play of the 3rd quarter to tie the game and then quickly added further scores to turn the game on its head and lead 14-33 at the end of the period. Losing several key players to injury in the 3rd period made the mountain too much to climb for the Hurricanes and despite a huge effort the canes lost 14-47.
In the end the Canes missed play off football by half a point and can be proud of their season finishing runners up to the undefeated Trojans. It was a emotional end to the game with the canes saying farewell to club legends Mahamadou Niakate, Lars Halford, Craig Campbell and Stevie Cook. The quartet retire after amassing well over 400 appearance’s between them.

See you later guys, has been an absolute pleasure playing with you!
